In the heart of Salzburg, just after exploring Mozart`s birthplace, I was unexpectedly drawn to a middle-aged guitarist in the nearby square. The final, lingering notes of "Romance d`Amour" were just fading as I approached. He seemed to be in his early forties, sporting a clean, fair complexion and a neatly trimmed beard on his chin. His gaze, somewhat detached, briefly met ours — we four strangers — before he immersed himself again in his music, this time beginning "Recuerdos de la Alhambra." Although I had heard this piece countless times on CDs, experiencing it live brought forth a new dimension. His playing was soft yet complex, resembling delicate raindrops that create expanding ripples upon a calm pond. Occasionally, he introduced a distinct distortion, like a pebble disrupting the water`s stillness, masterfully using this technique to express a sense of inner turmoil. Especially notable were moments where the melody ascended an octave, marked by two pronounced distortions, each accompanied by a subtle contortion of his face, as if he was torn within.

As the notes, reminiscent of a light rain, gradually subsided, I imagined the rustle of leaves and the quiet chirping of autumn insects in distant palace gardens. At that moment, the guitarist seemed to create an unseen doorway for me, hidden within a green hedge, discernible only to those who truly observe. Stepping through this passage and moving forward, I felt the guitar`s mournful tune pulling me closer, until the musician and I merged into one, united in the soundscape of chirping insects.

When the music finally ended, I found myself in a reflective, almost otherworldly state. The guitarist’s attention shifted to my son, daughter, and their mother, offering a reserved smile that seemed to say, 

"He shall not exist anymore. You three are free to continue the rest of your journey."
